The BST is used to clean the main crop grain from wild oats by length. It is also used to sort the cleaned grain by length. It is used in grain elevators, flour mills and cereal mills to separate wild oats and chokecherry seeds from grain mixtures; in cereal mills to separate oats from barley and to separate husked and unhusked grains.
The main moving object of a cylinder with recesses is a cylinder with cells, into which short fractions (grain) enter, and long fractions (wild oats), which are longer than the cells, do not enter the cells. The cylinder with cells rotates and discharges the long fractions onto the first trough. The short fractions are discharged onto the second tray. This is how the mixture is fractionated.
